Greening Nigeria
Greening Nigeria Project is a tree-planting/nurturing campaign for sustainable intensification & climate change adaptation. We started in 2019 on fruit trees with an emphasis on women and young people for measurable impact on nutrition from fruits. This year, we intend to reforest identified deforested/degraded lands in indigenous communities with oil palm trees, nurturing them through carbon farming – cover crops, no tillage, improved nitrogen timing.
The essence is to deliver food and nutrition, income to smallholder farming households, reforestation, soil health and climate change resilience. This project will collaborate with women and young oil palm smallholder farmer groups who will make products out of oil palm and it’s residue. Also, raise awareness on carbon farming for the long term.
This project began in 2019 and is on going after COVID-19 pandemic.
It cuts across the country in Nigeria — South, East, North and West.
The idea is to plant a minimum of 2 fruit trees at schools, mosques, churches, village squares, streets, markets etc. For Nutritional needs of the people in that region.
And across the regions, over 10,000 trees were planted – which were donated by individuals, indigenous NGOs, etc these Fruit trees are nurtured till into fruiting.
In 2022, some organizations at the South South continued planting with 8,000 donated by individuals, environmentalists and NGOs.
So far, this project has improve the lives, socio economic and environmental health of the people in this communities.
The organization will push further to reach more grounds this year through this project.
